Mill Road Trail is 100% Finished The stairs were installed in early August, fully reopening the trail to public use.

And more good news along the Brandywine: work has started on the replacement of the Bancroft Mills Bridge. Fingers crossed, if all goes well, the bridge connecting Alapocas and the Highlands should be opened next June (Read here for more details).

Very Excited about "The Post" Opening on Delaware Avenue

In late July I was excited to attend the "soft opening" of the "The Post," a restaurant at 1715 Delaware Avenue, created by two lifelong Wilmingtonians Dan Sheridan and Rob Snowberger.

Three things impressed me:

  1. Their focus on adding culinary novelty to the restaurant scene by specializing in high-end barbecue.

  2. Architecture and layout - The design work they put into it, it feels cozy and makes you want to linger.

  3. Organic/ healthy food - all the vegetables are grown onsite.

The restaurant industry is a tough one. We are lucky to have entrepreneurs like Dan and Rob willing to take risks to add new excitement and energy to our neighborhoods.

Coming in October - The "Jazz Age" at the Delaware Art Museum

By many accounts last fall's Rosetti's exhibit was the most successful international art exhibit in Delaware in 50 years, drawing crowds from all over the country and even the world. From everything that I'm hearing from Art Experts, the "Jazz Age" may be even better!

Exhibit Starts October 5th and runs through January. Read more here.

Big Weekend for Art - Brandywine Art Festival & Art Loop

Total commitment to combatting Dangerous Driving In the 8th District

I continue to receive complaints about traffic safety issues throughout the City. As I mentioned in my newsletter last month, dangerous driving (speeding, running or rolling through stop signs) is a major quality of life issue. It is totally unacceptable. I am constantly in contact with the Traffic Police and Public Works to strategize about making each spot safer. A major challenge is that there are only a handful of officers dedicated to the Traffic Police unit and they have to cover the whole city. That makes consistent enforcement of traffic laws difficult. Philadelphia, which has been expanding its use of automated traffic enforcement to crack down on dangerous driving along major roads, may offer some lessons for Wilmington. I am paying close to see what we can learn from their strategy and apply here.
